The Denver County Jail facility at 10500 East Smith Road has been in existence since 1956. Division Chief Elias Diggins is in charge of the County Jail Division.
As part of the Justice Center Bond Project, the Denver County Jail is currently undergoing significant structural changes. The County Jail Division is responsible for the long term care and custody of sentenced prisoners, sentenced and pre-sentenced female prisoners and prisoners sentenced to work release/community corrections. The County Jail offers a variety of programs aimed at enhancing the lives of prisoners while incarcerated. Some of the programs offered are:

Program Providers include:
Prisoners have access to health care 24 hours a day under the guidance of the Denver Health Medical Center. The health care provided to the prisoners is accredited by the
National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC). The County Jail has varying conditions of confinement ranging from minimum security dormitory housing, maximum security cell blocks to special management "lock-down" areas. Housing within the facility is determined by the Classification unit.
