Overview, Programs
The Electronic Monitoring Program began working with Drug Court July 2002. Drug Court utilizes monitoring as an alternative to jail for offenders who are in the Drug Court Program in Denver District court. Most offenders are sentenced to a weekend where they are “locked down” or incarcerated in their home as the jail, utilizing a radio frequency monitor or sometimes, the continuous alcohol monitor. Traditionally this has been used as a sanction by the court for offenders who violate the courts rules but has also been used for longer sentences.
Benefits & Success
It has been very effective as an immediate consequence for offenders and it has kept the jail population from expanding. The success rate of the program is 88%.
