Overview, Programs
The Electronic Monitoring Program began working with Denver County Courts Juvenile Division and Juvenile Probation in April 2004. We work with the juvenile, their parents/guardian, and probation officer to address specific needs to help them successfully complete their electronic monitoring sentence.
The Electronic Monitoring Program uses a variety of technologies to monitor juvenile offenders. Most commonly they are placed on radio frequency or cell units. We also have some juveniles who are placed on the continuous alcohol monitor for alcohol abuse. Monitoring juveniles creates its own unique set of obstacles aside from normal electronic monitoring. The court has very few alternative sanctions available for non-compliance thus requiring the program to be creative in its enforcement of violations.
Benefits & Success
Sentencing juveniles to electronic monitoring affords parents the ability to attempt to resolve behavioral issues with their children at home rather than in the legal setting while the juvenile is still serving their court sanction. Since April 2004, 848 juveniles have been placed on electronic monitoring. With an average length of sentence of 26 days, 96% of the participants have completed the program successfully.
