                                                                         ***NOTICE***

Renewal Reminder Postcards

Denver Motor Vehicle will mail, Renewal Reminder Postcards, the first week, of the month of expiration as a courtesy to Denver residents.

Grace Period

The State of Colorado allows for a one month grace period for renewing registrations. The grace period ends the last day of the month following the month of expiration. (Example: If your registration expires in April, your grace period ends the last business day in May)

Note: The grace period does not apply to temporary permits.

Online

The quickest and most efficient way to process registration renewals is by utilizing the State of Colorado online renewal service.

 Credit Cards

Credit card payments are accepted both online and at all of our branch office locations.

The administrative processing fee for credit card payments online is 2.7%.

The administrative processing fee for credit card payments at the branch office is 2.7% for all items $10.01 or more. There are no administrative fees for items 10.00 and less.

The administrative processing fee is reduced to $1.00 per transaction for all transactions paid via ECheck.

Note: Administrative processing fees are non-refundable

You will have the opportunity to review all applicable fees prior to finalizing your transaction. If you do not wish to pay the fee, you have the option to cancel your transaction and pay via a traditional, offline method. Online payment is an alternative to traditional types of payments and is considered voluntary. We appreciate your support of Colorado.gov.

Mail

The mail in process is available by utilizing the renewal reminder postcard that has a blue sticker containing the county office’s mailing address.

Please make all checks payable to "Manager of Finance" and include any required documents as stated on the renewal card (i.e., insurance, emissions, etc.) The average processing time for license plate renewals by mail is 2 to 4 weeks. If you are already within your grace period, do not mail after the 15th of the month. This allows enough time for processing.

The State of Colorado requires the Denver Motor Vehicle Division to verify that each motorist has valid motor vehicle insurance before  registrations, titles or plates are issued.  Insurance companies are required by law to provide necessary information on their policy holders to the State database by the seventh day of each month.  If your insurance carrier has not provided proof of insurance to the State, you will be required to do so before your registration can be renewed.

The reverse side of the registration renewal card may be used to change your address if you move.  If your new residence is in a different county, you must contact and mail the registration renewal to your new county of residence.

For more information please contact us or visit any Denver Motor Vehicle branch office.
