Best Buy and Staples now offer free electronics recycling at their stores.

 

BEST BUY:  Consumers can now drop off items with screens up to 32 inches for tube televisions and 60 inches for flat-panel televisions, free of charge.  In addition to televisions, the in-store recycling program includes computer monitors, DVD players, audio and video cables, cell phones and other electronics.  For more information and to watch a video on Best Buy’s electronics recycling program visit BestBuy.com/Recycling.

 

STAPLES:  Free recycling of desktops, laptops, monitors, printers, shredders, UPS devices, computer peripherals, and small office electronics like mobile phones, GPS, and digital cameras.Accept all brands, but there is a limit of 6 items per customer per day and cannot accept televisions, appliances, floor model copiers, stereo equipment, alkaline batteries, and certain other household electronics. The City of Denver, in partnership with Metech Recycling, is now offering an E-cycle Coupon. The E-cycle coupon will allow Denver residents to drop-off their televisions, monitors and other electronic items at Metech Recycling's facility at a significantly discounted rate. Denver residents may request an E-cycle coupon by completing the online form below or by calling 3-1-1.

Properly and responsibly recycling electronic equipment is very important. Electronics contain a variety of harmful and in some cases even toxic substances, that when discarded, can pose risks to our health and the environment. CRT (cathode ray tube) televisions and monitors on average contain 4 to 8 pounds of lead each. Flat panel televisions, laptops, and monitors have mercury containing lamps inside, and electronics circuitry, and some cords and cables contain significant amounts of lead and cadmium. Recycling these materials also reduces our need to mine or extract more of the natural resources used to make electronics.
