Barrel Collection Service

Barrel service customers are provided with a 100-gallon black trash container with wheels. City crews collect the trash from these barrels in automated trucks equipped with a specially designed arm that grasps and empties the container.

Barrel Service Guidelines:

    • Set your trash barrel out for collection by 7 AM on your collection day, but no earlier than 7 PM the night before. Collection vehicles will not be able to return for late set outs, as service resources are extremely limited.
    • Allow 4 feet of clearance on all sides of your barrel. Obstructions such as cars, fences, poles, overflow trash, LIP items or other collection containers may prevent the automated trucks from emptying your barrel.
    • Set your barrel in the street with the wheels against the curb and the front facing the street. The automated trucks cannot service containers set out backwards.
    • Be sure to set your barrel away from any garage overhangs or obstructions above the barrel.
    • Keep your barrel lid closed.
    • Put trash in heavy-duty bags to help prevent litter.
    • Use your barrel to full capacity, but do not overfill the barrel. The bags and trash in your barrel should be loose enough to come out when tipped during servicing. Tightly compacted bags or trash inside the barrel may not come out when serviced.
    • Do not place unacceptable items in your black trash barrel.  Barrels containing tree limbs, branches or wood boards cannot be emptied, as they cause damage to the collection vehicles.
    • Remember to return your trash barrel to your property on non-collection days and store out of public view.
Setting out Overflow Trash

Overflow bags or containers of household trash will be collected per overflow collection cycle (every 3 weeks).

Containers or bags used for overflow trash must be no larger than 32 gallons in size and weigh no more than 50 pounds. Containers or bags exceeding 32 gallons or 50 pounds cannot be collected.

Be sure to set overflow trash at least 4 feet to the side of your trash barrel and any other obstacles.

Use heavy duty trash bags to prevent breakage and odors.

A maximum of ten items per scheduled overflow collection day (includes combination of bundled branches and household trash).

Bundled branches can be set out as overflow.  Branches must be tied and bundled in bundles less than 4 feet in length with no branch larger than 4 inches in diameter and easily handled by one person. Branch bundles count as part of your  ten items acceptable for collection during your scheduled overflow collection cycle (every 3 weeks).

During scheduled LIP Collection:

  • A maximum of  five large items (furniture, etc.) will be collected per LIP cycle (every nine weeks) per household.
  • Be sure to set out your barrel by 7 AM on your scheduled collection day.  Collection vehicles will not be able to return for late set outs, as service resources are extremely limited.
  • Do not place unacceptable items in your black trash barrel.  Barrels containing tree limbs, branches or wood boards cannot be emptied, as they cause damage to the collection vehicles.
